British Airways DSDM roll-out programme is the largest ever undertaken anywhere in the world. 'The World's Favourite Airline' selected RADTAC to supply DSDM Training and Consulting to its 1500-strong application development and support department, which has some 200 IT projects in progress at any given time.

RADTAC consultants managed the programme and provided support to projects where British Airways IM teams, their customers and suppliers worked together using the DSDM framework.

The target set by BA was to have 25% of projects using full DSDM within 3 years, with productivity improvements of at least 50% over the BA average and with no increase in error rates. To achieve this would mean nearly 400 development staff working on DSDM projects and a saving of 23 million over three years. In addition, all other projects were targeted to use as much DSDM as possible in an ‘Enterprise Agile’ approach.

BA and RADTAC achieved and exceeded both targets. More than 150 deliveries were measured from full-blown DSDM projects, showing average productivity improvements in excess of 80%.

RADTAC has trained over 800 British Airways staff, using bespoke training material developed by RADTAC to address the specific requirements of British Airways.

As a result, DSDM has been adopted as the standard approach for all British Airways projects, and used as the basis for its Information Management Quality Management system, called Blueprint.

RADTAC Consultants managed the project team and developed the Blueprint product for BA. At the close of the programme the average delivery time across all British Airways projects had been improved by more than 30%.

"Productivity has improved to the tune of taking 30% off the typical delivery time . . . it takes external DSDM experts to make it happen, in both IT and business departments”
