Global Services Provider - UK Borders Project
Client Outline and Requirement The client is the Global Services Division of the largest UK Telecoms company, and was bidding to become the lead contractor on the multi billion pound contract to provide systems to the Government for UK Electronic Border Control. The objective of the project was to enable the client to define and implement a World Class delivery approach to the programme to: • Prove to their client that consistent high quality delivery would be managed and delivered. • Provide a baseline against which negotiations and agreements with sub-contractors could be finalised. • Deliver improvements to the established practice of sub-contractors defining costs against very little definition of who would be producing what, and to what level of quality.
RADTAC Delivery Services
RADTAC was selected due to:
• Our recognised, successful, high quality delivery of a previous multi billion pound programme for the same client.
• Our proven ability to define a pragmatic delivery approach to this highly complex and political environment…
• … and then to pragmatically implement the agreed approach.
RADTAC built a delivery team of 6 personnel, comprising 4 in-house Champions from each of the subcontractors, and 2 RADTAC Transformation Consultants. RADTAC personnel applied the existing Systems Delivery Lifecycle (SDLC) that had previously been defined and implemented by RADTAC for the same client on an earlier multi billion pound programme.
RADTAC roles included:
• Transformation Project Manager: Responsible to the client for the delivery of the SDLC Transformation Project.
• Mentor: To mentor client personnel in the pragmatic use of the SDLC.
• Process and Standards Architect: To build the Website that defined the SDLC.
In the event of a successful bid by the client, their objective was to apply the SDLC across the programme.
In order to succeed, the project was delivered to very aggressive timescales and required the application of Agile methods to deliver the project, and interfacing with existing client methods.
Summary
The SDLC project provided a much need basis to prove to the client’s client that a quality delivery would be achieved, and provide a basis for agreement and negotiation with the sub-contractors. The project was recognised as a success by the client, and very well received by all concerned.
