RADTAC Involvement
UnitedHealth UK began working with RADTAC in September 2009 when RADTAC provided Agile training to the key stakeholders within the technology teams.

The approach was essentially SCRUM-based, but incorporated elements from other Agile approaches, particularly XP.  Additionally, a delivery model based on quarterly release cycles and fortnightly development Sprints was introduced to help ensure the deliverables on the technology projects were robustly managed.  Also, RADTAC resources provided intensive mentoring at team level and programme leadership both in the UK and US.

The technology programme consisted of 5 separate development streams across both the UK and US, with internal resources being supplemented by both on- and off-shore providers.  RADTAC developed an Agile-focussed Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC) to help manage the outcomes from the programme steams.  This was subsequently integrated into the existing UnitedHealth UK Product Development Lifecycle (PDLC).

RADTAC’s coaches also introduced a range of tools to support continuous integration, code management and automated testing; these were particularly useful in making the programme’s progress visible to the senior leadership team.

As the programme has evolved, RADTAC has become more involved in environment definition and management, the development of new architectures and the adoption of innovative technologies.  UnitedHealth UK will integrate these approaches into the development of their future healthcare technologies.
