There must be a better way

There is most definitely a better way utilising Scaled Agile, Lean, Kanban and DevOps methods. The focus of all of these frameworks is simplicity. One of the guiding principles of Lean is to eliminate waste, and a guiding principle of all Agile frameworks is ‘simplicity: the art of maximising the amount of work not done’, which is essential.

Simplicity relates to working in small value driven batches of features. It also relates to keeping processes as simple as they can be. Agile focusses teams into ‘Feature Teams’ that contain all the skills required to produce small batches of valuable features. The creation of Feature Teams is combined with the simplest possible set of processes, like Scrum, which leads to significant reduction in waste and complex intelligent behaviour.

However, as with many things setting the appropriate focus on process improvement is a balance with other factors within the business. There is little point getting the right product delivery quickly but using a process that costs more than the revenue generated.
